I was very lucky to have grown up in one of the most beautiful cities in the world - Cape Town, South Africa. After a few years of interviews, I was selected for the Long Term Rotary Youth Exchange programme and following completion of high school in Cape Town, I lived and attended Moriarty High School in New Mexico, USA, and lived with three wonderful Rotarian host families. It was a life-changing cultural year. I love volunteering in my community - see Humanitarian Work for more information. I completed my Bachelor of Commerce Degree at the University of Cape Town and headed up to JHB to work. My first career was Marketing, Advertising and Promotions. Based in Putney, London, I've lived more than 20 years in the United Kingdom of which eight years were spent running an independent TV Production Company, producing Natural History documentaries in Dorset. See Previous Careers for more information.
Inspired by my experience whilst making TV documentaries and working with voice actors, I moved into the Voice Over industry. Using my background in Television and "being on the other side" has given me invaluable input in working as a voice talent, bringing many hours of experience in Executive Producing the final audio dubs of documentaries, to each voice over project. I self-direct and bring expression, timing and pace to my projects, breathing them into life with great attention to detail.
I've worked as a consultant analyst and project manager in Information Technology (IT) previously, I'm very comfortable with technology and Audio Production, and I endeavour to always provide my clients with a final audio product that's clean and technically well produced. I am an avid reader and this has certainly helped me with being a storyteller both in Television and Voice acting careers. Using my love of the English language and telling stories, and acting as different characters is the way to bring my clients' scripts books and E-learning to life.
I love to sing, dance and perform. I played prominent roles in amateur musicals and been in choirs since my school years.

In a number of Audiobooks I've narrated, I've sung the songs that are included in the text.
I have a passion for nature conservation and exploring the Natural World. I first saw David Attenborough's "Life On Earth" series projected on the wall of my junior school as a young child in South Africa. That was it - my passion for looking after the Natural World began. I insisted our family recycle as much as possible and watched every Natural History show I could.
Many happy teenage holidays were spent with the Reilly Family, who run The Big Game Parks of Swaziland. Ted Reilly and his family have dedicated their lives to bringing wildlife back to Eswatini, after Colonial Rule almost decimated the country's natural resources. Their tireless and often extremely dangerous work has enabled a thriving tourism industry and has safeguarded the wildlife for generations to come. Every holiday and many weekends I spent in Swaziland, helping out...and then worked there for a few months (which I loved) before starting work in Johannesburg (now Gauteng) in Marketing and Advertising. Whilst working in Marketing & Advertising, I spent my weekends to achieve my Field Guide Association of South Africa (FGASA) Level 1 training. It was a great release to spend every weekend in the bush, learning about nature.
Helping at The Parks greatly inspired me to appreciate and look after nature even more, and at twenty-nine I changed career to Television Production, so I could produce Natural History Documentaries, making a difference with my work.
Since I went on my first school trip at age 14 to stay with a family in Angers, France, to improve my French, my love for travel began. Meeting new people from different cultures was fascinating - I loved the sights, smells, different food, ceremonies and approaches to life. This grounding in French was to prove very useful when my husband and I lived in The Alps later in life!
During a university break, I backpacked solo for 9 weeks through South America (Brazil, Argentina & Chile) when I was 20, and visited my wonderful Brazilian friends I met on Rotary Youth Exchange in USA. When I was young, the film 'The Mission' with Ennio Morricone's haunting soundtrack inspired me to visit Foz de Igacu on the border of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay - it is utterly breathtaking.
Once I moved to the UK to travel and work, I would often organise trips abroad and pepper them with running a number of triathlons, half and full marathons in different parts of the world, including New York, London, Berlin, Reykjavik and Amsterdam, among others... culminating in an ultra marathon, The Two Oceans 56km in Cape Town, South Africa.
A friend and I cycled through Scandinavia for 5 weeks with a tent and our mountain bikes. We fly fished with the Sami people, went glacier hiking, wild camped, hiked to see puffins, traveled to the Lofoten islands and cycled up to the North Cape in the midnight sun.
With a friend, we summitted the highest peak in Asia at midnight, Mt Kinabalu, in Borneo. It was a real privilege seeing the orangutans, hiking, caving and spending time in the jungle recording all the beautiful sounds.
In 2003, I took a sabbatical and took 3 months off when I came to a crossroads in my life. With a special wedding to attend and the lure of nature, I took off to Australia, to see a platypus, kookaburra, koala and cassowary in the wild and dive the outer Great Barrier Reef. I set off with a mission to see a Kiwi in the wild in New Zealand, to hike, do the great Ben Nevis bungee jump and Shotover Jet, to learn about the Maori culture and to dive the Poor Knights Islands. I also did my first skydive from 12,000 feet! I spent 5 weeks in each country and loved it.
In recent years, my husband and I have travelled in Africa, Europe, to Turkey and Egypt - soaking up the wonderful diverse cultures, delicious food, beautiful scenery and meeting the wonderful people of this world.
The more I travel, the more I know how much there still is to see...I appreciate my life and the opportunities I've had, embracing every day - trying to fit in as much as possible. My bucket list is long...how will we possibly fit everything we want to do into this short life? We'll certainly try... Carpe diem!
Growing up in South Africa, doing sport has always been a part of life - from team swimming and hockey at school, to playing football (soccer) in USA whilst at Moriarty High School in New Mexico - it's always been fun being part of a team.
I enjoy hiking, snowboarding, mountainbiking, climbing and swimming. I'm a water baby and love scuba diving - in Australia I took my PADI advanced qualification, I've dived in South Africa, Mocambique and New Zealand, and would love to do more. My husband and I were lucky enough to spend two years living in the Alps, exploring the beautiful mountains of Chamonix in the Haute Savoie, France, and improved our alpine sporting skills.
Through my journey, I've realised the power of the body-mind connection - psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology incorporating psychology, neuroscience, epigenetics and quantum physics, As a result of a long IVF journey, I'm writing a book on IVF and nutrition and I have a radio show on Riverside Radio called "The Fertile Mind". To keep me centred I do meditation, Tai Chi and Qui Gong to manage any stress.
