Audiobooks, a labour of love

I was an avid reader from a tiny tot, and I still love to read. I have a queue of books waiting for my fingers to peruse the pages from neuroscience and quantum physics to wonderful novels you cannot put down.

To narrate audiobooks, you have to love reading, no question. Creating characters and bringing stories to life is such fun! One has to have stamina and dedication to narrate and produce audiobooks, with a love of the subject and meticulous attention to detail. It can take between three to six hours to produce one finished audiobook hour. I'm curious about everything, so narrating books is a wonderful way to keep learning!

International Voice Actor narrates Adult Fiction

In some adult books, there've been moments when I've had to stop and take a break from recording when tears threaten whilst reading - the emotion can be so strong when the book is well written. Here is a selection of my work. Children's books bring such a wonderful opportunity for characterisation to make the stories come alive. It can be so much fun.

As an independent narrator and producer of audiobooks, I have the pleasure of working with authors who have lovingly written their manuscripts and rights holders who write and publish them, working narrators to create audio versions for listeners around the world.

When a Voice Actor produces an audiobook, we are the narrator, the director, the editor and the producer. We read the book through first, marking it up, and creating for every character voices for each one, which has to be maintained throughout the book. For every one hour of finished audio, it can take between three to six hours of work, depending on the complexity of the book.

I have the pleasure of working directly with authors or via The Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX) or Findaway Voices.

I'm a member of The Audiobook Creators Alliance in the UK, striving for high standards and integrity in the industry.
